Typically, this tour commences from the inviting Sakura Ryokan in Tokyo. The first day is designed as an arrivals day, granting you the flexibility to arrive at your convenience. At 6 pm, a delightful rendezvous awaits as you gather with your guide and fellow explorers. It's important to note that the starting hotel is subject to potential adjustments until the final documents are issued, ensuring your journey remains seamless and remarkable.

The check-out process at Seibido Inn in Kyoto is scheduled for 10am on Day 9. For those with later departures, the convenience of luggage storage can be arranged at the hotel. Do keep in mind that the designated hotel may be subject to potential modifications until your final documents are thoughtfully provided, ensuring a seamless conclusion to your unforgettable holiday.

Absolutely!

The beauty of this group style of travel is that it caters to travellers who are travelling solo and who want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. Solo travellers will be paired with another traveller of the same gender.

There is also an optional single supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room.

This trip includes some long drives on winding roads. If you experience severe motion sickness, this trip may not be suitable for you.

Some of the best scenery on this trip will be found on hikes. So, while this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, it's essential to be at least moderately fit if you want to partake in all activities. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes.

All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity).

Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent.

It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory on this trip.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.

You can have a plate of food for a street vendor for AU$15 - $45, however there are always more expensive options. From a mid-range, sit-down restaurant, expect to pay AU$xx-xx - not including alcohol.

When visiting sites of religious significance, all travellers should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. Please check with your leader or local guide.

When you pack your clothing, consider the climate at the time of year you are travelling and any specific requirements for your trip as at certain times of the year some of the items suggested in the list that follow may not be necessary. Bear in mind that the weather will vary significantly from place to place. Most of the time the weather is warm in East Asia; however, it may be distinctly cold up in the highlands. If there are specific requirements for a trip they will be noted here, in the Essential Trip Information. Laundry facilities are available in most destinations.

Below is a list of equipment and documentation that we suggest you take with you. Please use this checklist as a guide when packing for your holiday.

  • Travel documents: passport, visa (if required), travel insurance, flight tickets, Essential Trip Information
  • Photocopy of the above documents

Due to limited vehicle space and strictly enforced road laws regarding weight limits, your main piece of luggage must be soft-sided and weigh no more than 15kg/33lb. You can also bring a day pack/bag to carry water, camera, sunscreen, etc when you’re exploring during the day.

Experience the authentic allure of Japanese living with a stay in traditional ryokans. Here, slumber is a serene affair, as you rest upon futons or mattresses atop tatami mat floors. During the daylight hours, your bedding gracefully disappears, unveiling a minimalist oasis. Ensuite bathrooms may be petite, and some ryokans offer shared bathing facilities, available during specific hours or by reservation at reception. Your tour leader will illuminate the etiquettes of communal spaces, ensuring a seamless and respectful experience.

While travelling on this tour you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. To give you maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule, groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.
