This tour welcomes a mix of couples, friends, and solo adventurers, so you won’t be alone for very long! Accommodation on this tour is mix-gender dorm share rooms in hostels across Scotland, which will give you plenty of opportunities to get to know your fellow group members during your travels together.

If you’re looking to soak in Scotland’s beautiful scenery, learn about its storied past, and get lost in its enchanting folklore with a group of like-minded individuals, then this is the tour for you! Our tours are all about getting off the beaten track and exploring Scotland so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

This trip welcomes people of all ages who are 18 years and older, with most travellers sitting in the 18-35 age range. The hostel accommodation, budget-friendly adventures, and reasonably-priced add-on activities make this trip a more affordable option that is particularly popular amongst backpackers, students, and other budget-conscious travellers.

The United Kingdom requires all international travellers to have a valid passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity) upon arrival into the country.

It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip to Scotland will vary depending on where you are from. We recommend contacting your local embassy or consulate or seeing your travel agent for the most relevant and up-to-date visa requirements.

Yes, travel insurance is required for all passengers and must cover all applicable dates of travel on this tour. Your travel insurance must provide cover for the following:

  • Trip interruption
  • Personal injury
  • Medical expenses
  • Evacuation and repatriation cover including during pandemic events

The choice of insurer is yours. We recommend you purchase your insurance at the time of booking or soon after booking your trip. The tour operator will not be held liable for any costs you may incur due to not obtaining adequate travel insurance before your trip.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while others might like to purchase more souvenirs. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, meals, and shopping.

For reference, Scotland uses the British Pound as its national currency, with 1 British Pound typically converting to just under 2 Australian dollars.

While meals are not included in the tour price, most hostels offer cooking facilities, allowing you to prepare your own meals if you don’t want to eat out. Essential ingredients and ready meals will be available near your hostels and the locations you’ll visit during each day.

Alternatively, if you’d like to eat out, your guide can provide fantastic restaurant and bar recommendations within your specified budget. Meal prices largely depend on where you are in the country (eg. big cities vs small towns).

You can generally have a plate of food from a street vendor or takeaway cafe for around AUD 10, but there are always more expensive options. If you’re eating at a mid-range, sit-down restaurant, you can expect to pay roughly AUD 25-40 (not including alcohol) depending on where you are in Scotland.

As well as the obvious essentials, we’d recommend packing the following items for your trip:

  • Comfortable closed-in shoes, preferably waterproof with good ankle support
  • A waterproof rain jacket
  • A towel
  • Something reliable to tell the time — the bus waits for no one!
  • A power bank to charge your electronic devices
  • A good moisturiser to repel midges and hydrate your skin during the colder months
  • Snacks for the bus
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A copy of your itinerary
  • Any necessary photo ID for this tour (eg. your passport and/or student ID)

Baggage is restricted to one reasonable-sized suitcase or backpack and one small carry-on bag per passenger (maximum combined weight 15 kg, maximum 67cm x 45 cm suitcase size). Carry-on should weigh no more than 10 kg. Any baggage exceeding these weight limits may not be carried.

You’ll be staying in top-quality independent and Youth Hostel Association hostels that are mostly rated 3 and 4 stars. Dorm bed accommodation is guaranteed this trip. Most hostels have mixed dorms with females and males sharing a room.

All hostels have great facilities, provide free linen (so you don't need a sleeping bag), comply with stringent safety regulations, and have top-quality self-catering kitchens, security, and laundry facilities.

You can join our waitlist and we will get in touch if your preferred dates become available, or if we can provide you with alternative/similar options!

Your tour guide will not be able to assist with wheelchairs or offer physical assistance when embarking or disembarking from the bus. Passengers using mobility aids will need to be capable of boarding and disembarking the coach themselves either by using the access stairs or getting assistance from a travelling companion.

If you use a wheelchair, it will need to be foldable so that it can be stored away in the luggage storage onboard the tour bus while driving.

Please be aware that some of the stops on this tour may be on rough terrain or only accessible by steps.

Hostels have limited access for wheelchair users. Please contact the tour operator to find out more about wheelchair access at each specific hostel.
